The Brisca F2 Stock Cars were in action for their biggest domestic meeting of the season, the Irish Closed Championship. Aidan McFerran earned the right to pole position as leader of the points chart, Shea Fegan occupied the outside of the front row while Fegan brothers Graham and Gavin shared row two on the grid.

As the race progressed Shea Fegan kept sway at the helm with McFerran safely in second a safe distance ahead of Gavin Fegan in third. While the gap between the leading duo was not massive, it looked as though on presentation of the lap boards that Shea’s lead was comfortable enough to peel of the remaining laps out front, however this was not to be; as he spun out of control in turn three only a handful of laps from home. With his machinery stranded on the racing line a caution period was called which would see the cars all bunched together in a shoot out to the flag. This was a welcome sight for the chasing McFerran, who was in the right place to pick up the pieces of Shea’s misfortune. McFerran completed the remaining tours of the circuit to pick up the title ahead of Gavin and Graham Fegan.

Later in the meeting Shea Fegan visited victory lane in the Irish Revenge Race while Adam McFall secured victory in the heat.

Portadown’s Daniel Stewart drove the race of his life crowing himself Irish Champion in the competitive Junior Rod formula. While Stewart had to switch into a more defensive mode, Morrow started to pull clear at the front while the other pair battled it out. A late race incident further back in the pack would end Morrows championship hopes as he collided with the wall heavy after coming in contact with spilled fluids from a damaged car. Flyin’ Ryan secures Irish title

A healthy grid of Saloon Stock Cars lined up in season points order for the showdown to determine who would wear the green roof of Irish Champion for the next twelve months. Coleraine’s Anthony McIvor and Ballymoney’s Matthew Stirling both former title holders shared the front row, with Ryan Wright on the inside of row two alongside Dylan Booth.
The heavy metal bumpers were put to good use in the opening exchanges, with Wright aiming for the lead inside McIvor just as a telling blow from Stirling took both himself and McIvor out of contention.

Wright claimed the lead and stamped his authority on the race from then on. While the leader powered clear behind there was action aplenty with McIvor and Stirling both on the move trying to gain back some places. Later in the meeting Matthew Stirling had an impressive win in the Irish Revenge race before Robert Mawhinney romped to victory in the lively all comers race.

Elliot strikes on last bend to claim Irish Open crown

The locals were joined on track by drivers from all corners of the UK including the newly crowned National Champion Jake Banwell.

Moodie blasts to Challenge trophy glory

A very pleasing entry of 30 plus cars gathered at Nutts Corner Raceway to contest the 2022 running of the Brisca F2 Challenge Trophy. High profile visitors included Gordon Moodie, Chris & Steven Burgoyne, James Rygor and Liam Rennie. A two third format was the preferred format, with each of the drivers contesting in two heats, in order to score qualifying points for the showdown grid.

The heat races were lively to say the least, with plenty of drama all around the raceway including roll over's for both Graham and Gavin Fegan. Gordon Moodie picked up the win in heat one before Chris Burgoyne took the heat two spoils, coming through for the local contingent; was Jonny Stirling when he took the flag in heat three.

With the points totalled it was Moodie who occupied pole position for the final with C Burgoyne along side, next up was Jonathan Hadfield, Jack Cave, Jamie Jones and Rennie. Moodie got away in text book fashion at the fall of the green while those behind went scattering in all directions resulting in a race stoppage and a complete restart.

Moodie was again quickly away at the second time of asking, however this time C Burgoyne wouldn't share the same fate, colliding heavy with the turn 1 concrete. The stranded machinery of Burgoyne among others would see the yellow flags aired again. With the cars now in single file fashion, Moodie would lead into the resumption ahead of Billy Finnegan Jnr and Rygor. By this time the grid was well thinned out after the earlier carnage. Moodie went on to take the win ahead of Finnegan and Rygor.

European crown for Philp

It was an important night for the Stock Rods as they contested their 2022 European Championship.
The points obtained via the heat races, won by William Donnell and Derek Connor would dictate the grid for the European decider. Joshua McMullan and Connor were the front row sitters with the multiple champion David Philp and Sam McKinstry behind. McMullan got off to a flying start while early skirmishes resulted in a caution period after a few cars entangled on the home stretch. McMullan picked up where he left off on the restart, however this time around Philp was close behind. As the laps ticked away it become apparent that McMullan was unable to shake of Philp. Philp kept his cool and showed signs of pulling off an outside pass, however this wouldn't have to be, as he slipped his nose inside of McMullan on the exit of turn two on the very last lap to move ahead. Philp was crowned European Champion, McMullan dusted himself off to take an impressive runner up finish with Cameron Doak third.

Saturday Support Round Up

A healthy showing of Micro F2's were on hand to provide support racing, with three visiting Scottish drivers Lana Middler, Rhys Walker and Caitlin Mitchell adding to the mix. Caitlin Mitchell made her trip across the Irish Sea very worthwhile by recording victories in all three of Saturday's races. Lana Middler also featured well with a runner up finish while Lola McCreight and William Graham were among the front runners.

There was impressive entry of the all action 2L Saloon Stock Cars including Scotland's William Mitchell. Two busy heat events served up action aplenty and wins for Marcus Watt and Dylan Booth. Booth was again the man to beat in the meeting final taking the silverware ahead of Mitchell and Ryan Wright.

Day two, it was the Irish Masters title up for grabs. This time two "all in" qualifying heats would contribute to Masters final grid. The pair of all action heat races produced wins for Stuart Shevill Jnr and Willie Mitchell.

The cars were gridded in points order for the title race, after two consistent finishes Barry Russell and Ryan Wright shared the front row with Ian McLaughlin and Shevill Jnr the occupiers of row two.
Russell got off to a faultless start with Wright also quickly away in second and McLaughlin well established in third. Behind the action was hot and heavy resulting in yellow flags being called due to a situation on turn three. On the resumption it was still Russell in charger, a few laps in Wright made his move and moved through to the front, with Russell, McLaughlin and Allard in close succession. As the four battled it out tooth and nail Wright was shunted wide while Allard coming to grief on the Nutts Corner end. Russell moved well clear, with Wright and Danny Colliver next. It was obvious Wright was now carrying damage from the earlier scuffle which allowed Colliver and McLaughlin to move through and give chase. Russell reeled of the remaining laps to take the win, Colliver was runner up with McLaughlin third.

The weekend was concluded in now traditional style, with the Stephen Boyd Memorial Race . The stakes were raised with enhanced prizes up for grabs including tyres, kindly supplied by the late Stephen Boyd's family. The race got off with a bang, when Robert Mawhinney performed a spectacular Roll Over. This resulted in a complete restart, they got away clean at the second time of asking with plenty of bumper work right throughout the field for the duration of the race. Irvine emerged the winner, with Shevill second and Ryan Wright third.

There was representation from all Corners of the UK with drivers representing England and Scotland joining the locals to fight it out for supremacy. Altogether over 30 cars took part throughout the weekend.

A two third format was used for Saturday's night racing, with each of the drivers racing in two qualifying heats before the Irish Open Showdown at the end of the evening.

Heat two saw another champion visit victory lane, this time it was Kyle Irvine the current European title holder, finishing just ahead of fellow Scotsman Stuart Shevill Jnr. Heat three of the night was action all the way, as the star graders exchanged lively blows as they went in search of valuable qualifying points. Allard emerged the victor once again, with Irvine the runner-up.

As the cars took to the grid for the Irish Open final it was clear to see it was a star stubbed front few rows, containing Allard, Irvine, Shevill the current UK Champion, Anthony McIvor and Ryan Wright both former Irish Champions and the defending Irish Open Champion Ross Watters.
Allard made a good escape on the green, leading the way for several laps ahead of McIvor, Irvine and Wright. Further back in the pack there was no shortage of drama, with a caution period soon called. A lively restart would see only a further few laps completed before another caution , this time a pile up in turn 3 claimed a few high profile casualties including Allard and McIvor. Wright took up the running on the restart with Barry Russell behind, Wrights spell at the front was short lived as he was sent scattering into a stricken car on turn 3. All the while Russell edged away in the lead with Matthew Stirling and Adam White giving chase. A late caution would regroup the cars once final time, with Russell still the leader, ahead of Stirling and Allard now recovered to third. Allard overcome Russell to take the win, making it three in the trot. Russell was runner up ahead of Irvine, Stirling and Wright.
