Milliken Claims Irish Open Glory on Action-Packed Afternoon at Nutts Corner

Sunday 11th October 2026 – Nutts Corner Raceway

There was no shortage of action at Nutts Corner Raceway on Sunday afternoon as six formulas took to the track for another entertaining meeting, headlined by the 1400 Stock Car Irish Open Championship.

The afternoon featured some excellent racing, several impressive individual performances and a number of dramatic incidents, including two rollovers in the 1400 Stock Cars.

1400 Stock Cars – Irish Open Championship

The 1400 Stock Cars were the headline attraction, with drivers competing for the Irish Open Championship.

Gary Freeburn (936) was the man to beat during qualifying, producing a dominant performance to win both heats. Matthew Milliken (997) was equally consistent, following Freeburn home in second place on both occasions.

Josh McKinstry (515) completed the podium in the opening heat, while Curtis Greer (922) took third in Heat 2.

There was plenty of drama during the qualifying races, with Ally Strachan (501) involved in a spectacular rollover on the back straight.

When the championship race arrived, however, it was Milliken who delivered when it mattered most.

The 997 driver took the chequered flag to become the 2026 1400 Stock Car Irish Open Champion, with Brant West (411) securing the runner-up position and Curtis Greer (922) completing the podium.

Freeburn, despite his earlier double heat victory, had to settle for fourth, while Lee Kingsnorth (400) rounded out the top five.

Korben Quinn (682), Jacob Bromley (303), Joe Giles (409), Luke Gordon (378) and Josh McKinstry (515) completed the top ten.

The action was far from over, with an additional Allcomers race offering £100 to the winner.

With the cash prize on the line, the race provided further drama as Gary Nicholls (176) was involved in another rollover.

It was Jacob Bromley (303) who eventually claimed the victory and the £100 prize, finishing ahead of Lee Kingsnorth (400) and Korben Quinn (682).

It was certainly an eventful afternoon for the 1400 Stock Cars, with Milliken celebrating championship glory, Freeburn taking a qualifying double and Bromley collecting the cash prize after a dramatic conclusion to the formula's programme.

BriSCA F2 Stock Cars

The BriSCA F2 Stock Cars provided plenty of action throughout the afternoon, with three competitive races and a dramatic moment during the second heat.

Reigning Irish Champion Aidan McFerran (467) got proceedings underway with victory in Heat 1, finishing ahead of Daniel Stewart (991) and Craig McConnell (925).

Heat 2 was not without incident, as Daniel Stewart (991) had a big moment which brought out the caution flags and temporarily interrupted proceedings.

Gavin Fegan (718) went on to take the Heat 2 victory ahead of Ryan McCrory (940), with McConnell securing third place.

Fegan continued his impressive form into the final, completing an excellent double victory ahead of McCrory, while opening heat winner McFerran rounded out the podium.

McConnell finished fourth, with Craig Bodenham (48) completing the top five.

It was a successful afternoon for Fegan, who emerged with two victories, while Stewart's second-heat incident provided one of the more dramatic moments of the F2 programme.

ORCi Stock Rods

The ORCi Stock Rods saw Jordan McClurkin (120) enjoy an excellent afternoon, taking two victories from the three races.

Former World Champion Samuel Montgomery (16) claimed the opening heat, finishing ahead of Cole McFall (911) and McClurkin.

McClurkin moved to the front in Heat 2, taking victory ahead of reigning Irish Champion Jack Kennedy (314), with Montgomery finishing third.

The final brought another success for McClurkin, who completed his double with Montgomery taking second and Kennedy third.

McFall finished fourth, while Jamie Quinn (203) rounded out the top five.

McClurkin's double victory was the standout performance in the Stock Rods, although Montgomery remained a consistent front runner throughout the afternoon.

GP2 Lightning Rods

The GP2 Lightning Rods produced an interesting afternoon, with Joe Black (69) getting proceedings underway by taking victory in the opening heat.

Car 161 followed Black home in second, with Nigel Kernohan (72) completing the podium.

Shane Gault (117) then took control of the second heat, claiming victory ahead of Black and Kernohan.

Gault continued his winning form into the final, completing a fine double victory ahead of Kernohan, with Aaron Fulton (44) taking third place.

Former Irish Champion David Nesbitt (837) secured fourth, while Jonny Kerr (642) rounded out the top five.

Gault's heat and final double was an excellent result, while Kernohan also enjoyed a consistent afternoon with three podium finishes.

ORCi Ministox

Corey Mathers (557) was the standout performer in the ORCi Ministox, producing a clean sweep of all three races.

Mathers began his afternoon with victory in Heat 1 ahead of car 99 and reigning Irish Champion Harry Martin (181).

The second heat brought another success for Mathers, with Martin moving into second place and Kyle Anderson (153) completing the top three.

There was no stopping Mathers in the final either, as he completed an impressive hat-trick of victories.

Martin secured another runner-up finish, while Coalan Fegan (718) completed the podium. Casey Lee (22) finished fourth, with Jake Adams (25) rounding out the top five.

Three wins from three starts represented a tremendous afternoon for Mathers, who was the only driver across the six formulas to complete a clean sweep of the programme.

Junior Rods

The Junior Rods provided another competitive afternoon, with the honours shared between two drivers.

Cody Rockett (134) claimed victory in the opening heat ahead of Christian Murray (926) and car 28.

Car 28 then turned the tables in Heat 2, taking victory ahead of Rockett and reigning Irish Champion Codi Wilson (975).

The final brought another victory for car 28, completing an afternoon double, while Rockett secured his third podium finish of the day with second place.

Cory Holmes (955) finished third, with Murray taking fourth and Wilson completing the top five.

It was a strong afternoon for both of the leading drivers, with Rockett recording a win and two runner-up finishes, while car 28 claimed the second heat and final.
