MIDWEEK RACING RETURNS TO NUTTS CORNER

Midweek racing returned to Nutts Corner Raceway on Wednesday evening for the first time in several years, with a six-formula programme testing whether there was still an appetite for a Wednesday night at the races.

The response was encouraging. A brilliant crowd, close racing and a special atmosphere under the lights made it a night to remember, providing plenty of enthusiasm for more midweek action in 2027.

Across the programme, all six formulas produced three different race winners, sharing the honours widely on NCR’s return to Wednesday night racing.

BriSCA F2

Daniel Stewart (991) opened his evening with victory in the first BriSCA F2 heat, heading home Ryan McCrory (940) and Aidan McFerran (467). Samuel Percy (933) took fourth ahead of Craig McConnell (925).

McCrory went one better in heat two, taking the win from McConnell, with Percy adding a third place. Craig Bodenham (48) and Anais McCreight (932) completed the recorded finishers.

Percy then rounded off a consistent evening with victory in the final. The 94 car took second ahead of opening heat winner Stewart, while Joshua Murray (922) and Declan Og McFerran (517) completed the top five. With fourth, third and first across his three races, Percy finished the meeting on a high.

2Lt Saloon Stock Cars

Jonny Patterson (127) took the opening Saloon Stock Car heat, followed by Ryan Patton (170) and Kieran McIvor (811). Marcus Watt (180) finished fourth, with Stuart McCammon (29) fifth.

Adam White (941) claimed heat two ahead of Watt, while Patterson backed up his earlier victory with third. Sean McFerran (477) and Ryan Wright (153) filled the next two places.

The final brought a third winner as McCammon took the honours ahead of Patton and McIvor. Patterson completed a strong set of results in fourth, followed by White and Robert Mawhinney (951). Patton and McIvor repeated their second- and third-place finishes from the opening heat.

ORCi Stock Rods

Kaitlyn Beggs (973) won the first Stock Rod heat, with Andrew Morrow (924) second and Joe Tomlinson (77) third. Samuel Montgomery (16) and Cole McFall (911) completed the top five.

The supplied MyLaps classification for heat two placed Mathew McKinstry (118) first, followed by Beggs and Morrow. John McClurkin (500) took fourth ahead of McFall.

McFall secured the final win, with Jack Kennedy (314) taking second and Montgomery completing the podium. Daryl McClurkin (55) finished fourth, as the Stock Rods also shared their three victories between three drivers.

GP2 Lightning Rods

Nigel Kernohan (72) took the opening GP2 Lightning Rod heat ahead of the 17 car and Joe Black (69). George Elser (51) finished fourth, followed by the 37 car.

Heat two went to the 963 car, with number 17 recording another second place. Lewis Peoples (777) completed the top three ahead of Kernohan and Robbie Brown (74).

After finishing runner-up in both heats, number 17 claimed victory in the final. The 37 and 963 cars completed the podium, with Kernohan fourth, Aaron Fulton (44) fifth and Peoples sixth.

ORCi Ministox

Caolan Fegan (718) began the Ministox programme with a win ahead of Jayden Roff (99) and Casey Lee (22). Harry Martin (181) and Kyle Anderson (153) completed the opening top five.

Ollie Harkness (132) took the second heat, followed by Fegan and Anderson. Lee finished fourth ahead of Alice McGaffin (312).

Roff claimed the final honours, with Martin second and Fegan third. Lee added another fourth place, followed by Jake Adams (25) and Anderson. Fegan’s first, second and third gave him a podium finish in every race.

Junior Rods

Sam Preston (28) won the opening Junior Rod heat ahead of Christian Murray (926) and Riley Dawson-Stirling (74), with Noah Teggart (218), Christopher Kernohan (621) and Jamie Scott (26) completing the result.

Scott then took victory in heat two, followed by Dawson-Stirling and Kernohan. Murray finished fourth ahead of Codi Wilson (975).

Cory Holmes (955) secured the final win, with Nathan Cregan (946) second and Murray completing the podium. Teggart took fourth ahead of Dawson-Stirling and Wilson, rounding off the Junior Rod programme.

More Racing Under the Lights

Wednesday’s meeting gave NCR an encouraging response to its midweek experiment, with the support from spectators and drivers providing plenty to build on.

Work is already under way on the 2027 programme, with a Wednesday Night Summer Series, more racing under the lights and predominantly Saturday night events forming part of the plans.

Thank you to all the drivers, race teams, spectators and staff who supported the return of midweek racing. Wednesday night at Nutts Corner offered an exciting taste of what could lie ahead.
