A big Bank Holiday weekend crowd turned out at Nutts Corner Raceway for a packed Sunday afternoon programme, with seven formulas providing plenty of racing before the ever-popular Caravan Destruction Derby brought the meeting to a spectacular conclusion.

There was a good mix of local and visiting drivers across the various classes, with several competitors remaining following the previous weekend’s major championship action.

BriSCA F2 Stock Cars

Aidan McFerran (467) was quickly into his stride in the opening BriSCA F2 encounter, taking Heat One ahead of Craig McConnell (925) and Ryan McCrory (940). Daniel Stewart (991) and Corey Dawson-Stirling (974) completed the top five.

Heat Two brought a change at the front as Gavin Fegan (718) raced to victory, with McCrory continuing his strong afternoon in second. McFerran took third ahead of Joshua Murray (922) and McConnell.

There was also a familiar face back amongst the BriSCA F2 ranks as Conor Hughes (929) made a return to the formula. A multiple champion in 2.0 Hot Rods, Hughes marked his return with sixth place in Heat Two.

The Final belonged to McFerran, who completed a heat-and-final double. McCrory followed him home in second, with McConnell third, Samuel Percy (933) fourth and Adrain Finnegan (80) fifth.

Saloon Stock Cars

The Saloon Stock Cars included Scottish visitor Ryan Strachan (508) amongst a strong field for their three races.

Jonny Patterson (127) took the opening victory ahead of Stuart McCammon (29) and Sean McFerran (477). Geoff Martin (181) was fourth, with National Champion Matthew Stirling (747) fifth.

McCammon turned the tables in Heat Two, taking the victory with Patterson this time finishing runner-up. McFerran again featured strongly in third, followed by Marcus Watt (180) and Ryan Patton (170).

The Final saw Matthew Stirling (747) come through to take the chequered flag. Fresh from winning the Irish Masters the previous weekend, the National Champion continued his strong run of form ahead of Ryan Wright (153) in second and Anthony McIvor (711) in third. Jonathan Brown (688) was fourth and Robert Mawhinney (951) fifth.

1400 Saloon Stock Cars

Andrew Russell (333) took the opening 1400 Saloon Stock Car victory, leading Michael Logan (993) and Joshua McKinistry (515) across the line. Matthew Weir (262) was fourth.

Curtis McConkey (982) was the man to beat in Heat Two, taking victory ahead of Samuel Percy (933) and Alexander McCreadie (37). Opening heat winner Russell finished fourth, with Graham Meek (917) fifth.

The Final went the way of Joshua McKinistry (515), with William Taggart (842) taking runner-up spot and Matthew Weir third. McConkey finished fourth and Michael Logan completed the top five.

ORCi Stock Rods

The ORCi Stock Rods featured several visiting drivers who had remained following the previous weekend’s World Championship action.

Joe Tomlinson (77) took Heat One ahead of Jordan McClurkin (120) and Samuel Montgomery (16). Newly crowned World Champion and Scottish visitor Jamie Dawson (165) finished fourth, with reigning Irish Champion Jack Kennedy (314) fifth.

Tomlinson made it two from two in Heat Two, with Montgomery moving up to second and Dawson third. Kyle Houston (148) finished fourth and Kennedy was again fifth.

The Final saw Jamie Dawson (165) come through to victory, continuing his successful visit just one week after lifting the World Championship. Cole McFall (911) finished runner-up, with Montgomery third, Samuel McKinstry (115) fourth and Kaitlyn Beggs (973) fifth.

GP2 Lightning Rods

Ricky Peoples (132) opened the GP2 Lightning Rod programme with victory in Heat One, leading Richie Browne (174) and Lewis Peoples (777) home. Jordan Nicholl (6) was fourth and Steven Elder (96) fifth.

Nigel Kernohan (72) took Heat Two ahead of Nicholl, with Ricky Peoples third. Stewart Nicholl (60) finished fourth and Browne fifth.

The Final went to Jordan Nicholl (6) ahead of Ricky Peoples in second. Reigning Gold Roof Champion George Elser (51) finished third, with Lewis Peoples fourth and Browne fifth.

ORCi Ministox

A strong Scottish visiting contingent was again amongst the ORCi Ministox field and featured prominently throughout the afternoon.

Scottish visitor Caitlyn Mitchell (879) took the opening victory ahead of newly crowned National and Ulster Champion Stuart Shevill Jnr (618). Fellow Scot Corey Mathers (557) finished third, with Harry Martin (181) fourth and Scottish visitor Ollie Sime (480) fifth.

Mitchell repeated the feat in Heat Two, once again leading Shevill and Mathers across the line. Caolan Fegan (718) finished fourth and Sime fifth.

The Final went to Scottish visitor Corey Mathers (557), with Harry Martin taking second and double heat winner Mitchell third. Sime finished fourth and Casey Lee (22) fifth.

Junior Rods

Nathan Cregan (946) took the opening Junior Rod victory, with Riley Dawson-Stirling (74) finishing runner-up and Josh Peoples (132) third. Reigning Irish Champion and recent 1KE Series Final winner Codi Wilson (975) was fourth, with Noah Teggart (218) fifth.

Jamie Scott (26) came through to win Heat Two ahead of Teggart and Wilson. Cory Holmes (955) took fourth and Dawson-Stirling fifth.

The Final saw Noah Teggart (218) take the victory, with Wilson runner-up and opening heat winner Cregan third. Dawson-Stirling finished fourth and Josh Peoples completed the top five.

Caravan Destruction Derby

With the conventional racing completed, there was still one major attraction left for the large Bank Holiday crowd — the Caravan Destruction Derby.

It certainly didn’t disappoint, with carnage aplenty once the action got underway. The circuit quickly became littered with the remains of caravans as repeated impacts reduced them to little more than scattered panels, timber and debris.

The crowd enjoyed every moment of the chaos, providing a spectacular and suitably messy conclusion to a busy Bank Holiday Sunday.
