Irish Championship season kicked off with a double header in the form of the ORC Ministox and Group 2 Lightning Rods.
The Ministox title went the way of Harry Martin after he over come pressures from Casey Lee and Eoin Donnelly. Martin was joined on the podium by Donnelly the runner-up and Lee third. Lee managed to up his game a take the honours in the Irish Revenge race.
In the Group 2 Lightning Rod Irish showdown, David Nesbitt overcome early pressures from George Esler to run clear and take the title. Esler held on strong to finish second ahead of Paul Nesbitt. Ballymena’s Nigel Kernohan was the long-time leader of the revenge race until Lewis Peoples piled on the pressure and made a move for the front. Peoples went on to take the win ahead of Asan Dinnin.
It was title time for the Junior Rods also as they contested the Final of their season long Gold Roof Series. Pole sitter Maia Thompson held control most of the race until Charlie Hill made contact and moved to the front. Hill went on to take the flag, however he was docked for his earlier contact. Thompson was crowned champion, with Codi Wilson second. Hill later failed post race checks and was subsequently disqualified which promoted Mya Hill to third. Mya Hill’s day continued to get better when she took the win in heat 1 before Christian Murray enjoyed his first victory in heat 2.
The 1300 Stock Car contested their King of NuttsCorner title. There was heat wins for Jon McQuillan and Ty Richardson. Come the final the star names to control with World Champion Curtis Greer cruising clear to take the spoils ahead of Joshua McKinstry and Richardson.
In the Brisca F2 Stock Cars Ryan McCrory and Aidan McFerran shared the heat victories before McCrory turned it up a notch to run clear and get his hands on the Final silverware. This time Gavin Fegan was the runner up with Graham Fegan third.
Completing the billing was the Micro F2’s. Robbie Graham and Kurtis Peoples enjoyed visits to victory lane in the heat races. Graham showed strong pace once again in the Final storming through from the star grade to the win.
