The 1300 Stock Cars were the main headline act at Sunday afternoon’s race meeting at NuttsCorner Raceway.

Local man Willie Stewart was the first to taste success when he romped clear of the pack, to take a convincing victory in what was a lively opening heat. Keeping the hopes of the local contingent alive, Randalstown man Ty Richardson secured the heat two spoils. The feature race was the 2024 Irish Open Championship. This turned out to be a boisterous affair with action aplenty right from the off, there was several lead changes and many caution periods adding to the excitement for the large gathering of fans. England’s Ryan Jordan completed the distance to take the win, successfully defending the title he claimed at Tullyroan Oval in 2023. Joining Ryan on the podium was Jonathan Brown (runner up) and Scottish star Ally Strachan. After a challenging weekend NuttsCorner’s Josh McKinstry found luck just in time to take the honours in the final event of the weekend, the Irish Open revenge race.

Sam Percy continued to make his presence felt in the Brisca F2 Stock Cars where he chalked up victories in both the heats. Come the final it was the seasoned campaigner Gavin Fegan who emerged victorious, following Gavin home was Corey Dawson-Stirling and Ryan McCrory who has returned to his F2 roots after a spell in 2L Hot Rods.

Kieran McIvor and Stuart McCammon enjoyed a heat win apiece in the 2L Saloon Stock Cars before Matthew Stirling picked up the final honours. The final turned out to be arguably race of the afternoon after a late caution bunched the cars together. Lively exchanges resulted in spells at the front for Kieran McIvor, Ryan Wright and Stirling. Stirling emerged the victor, next was Wright and Irish Champion Calvin Blake.

Lewis Peoples completed the meeting undefeated in the GP2 Lightning Rods, scoring up wins in both heats and the meeting final. Following Lewis across the line in the final was Ricky Peoples and George Esler.

Another who enjoyed a fine hat trick of wins was Broughshane’s Robbie Graham in the Micro F2’s. Others who featured strongly on the day included William McGaffin and Tommy McAvoy.

The Junior Rods were on hand to provide some non contact race action. Maia Thompson was winner of heat one before Mya Hill secured the heat two spoils. It really was an afternoon of “Girl Power” with an all female top three in the meeting final. Hill was the conqueror again, second went the way of Jaydon Brunton with the earlier heat winner Thompson third.

Completing the packed race card was the ORCi Ministox. The grid was swollen with the welcome addition of a sprinkling of Scottish drivers. As in the Junior Rods it was a female leading the way throughout the day, Scotland’s Demi Ritchie performed a flawless brace of victories, taking both heats and the final. Joining Demi on the final podium was fellow Scot Dean Heeps and local lad Leyton Hughes.

BSB Superbike superstar, TT winner and 3 times Armoy winner the day before, Davey Todd joined us having a blast in a Brisca F2 and Saloon Stock Car. He turned a number of laps in Ryan McCory’s F2 before jumping into Ryan Wright’s 2L Saloon Stock Car.
Davey looked at home in both machines, and even hinted at joining us some time to compete in a race!!
