The feature event of the day was the ORCi Stock Rod British Championship. With the points all tallied from Saturday’s heat event England’s Callum Hosie secured pole position with local driver Jamie Cardwell along side.
Cardwell broke clear of the field on the rolling lap, just before the fall of the green flag which seen him pick up a black cross. This allowed Cardwell to take up the running at the front unpressured while Hosie found himself having to fight of stiff opposition from behind. Hosie quickly fell victim to Shea Duff on the river bend which would end his race while Duff picked up a penalty from race control. All the while Cardwell continued to keep sway at the front with Jamie Dawson and William Donnell next in tow. As the laps ticked away Donnell made it through to second and was closing the gap to the leader, however as the laps run down he couldn’t make it all the way to the front. Cardwell completed the distance and crossed the line in first ahead of Donnell and Dawson. After a steward’s enquiry in which video footage was reviewed Cardwell was penalised two places for the earlier jump start. Donnell was promoted to first place which crowned him British Champion, Dawson was now runner up with Cardwell third.
Next up for the Stock Rods was the British revenge race; Jason Darragh was the runaway winner of this one before Scotland’s Stewart “Pies” Patterson secured a win in the allcomers race.
The Brisca F2’s kicked of the afternoon with the third and final heat for the Irish Open Championship. Gary Grattan completed the distance to take the win of ahead of Shea Fegan and Gordon Moodie.
The points for all three heats were combined to form the grid for the Irish Open Championship title Showdown. Shea Fegan secured the pole with Moodie alongside. The race was young when a caution was required for dramas on the exit of turn four. At the restart Moodie quickly challenged S Fegan to take over at the front briefly before S Fegan run Moodie wide and into the wall on turn one. Graham Fegan moved through to top spot while Moodie brushed off and quickly established himself back in second. Meanwhile S Fegan and Joshua Murray had tangled on the back straight requiring another caution period.
Soon after the resumption Moodie eased past G Fegan and to the front again, this time G Fegan fired back, firing Moodie to the wall damaging his car and sidelining him from the race. While G Fegan focused his attention on Moodie, Scotland’s Jason McDonald eyed up the top spot and slipped through on the inside of the squabbling duo. From there McDonald commanded the rest of the race to take the win, G Fegan held on for second ahead of Aiden McFerran in third.
McDonald showed strong pace again in the revenge race, securing another victory before Moodie rounded out the weekend with a win in the Grand National.
Joshua McKinstry was the opening heat winner in the 1300 Stock Cars before Matt Milliken stormed through the field from the superstar grade to take a convincing win in heat two. After a entertaining last corner dust up Jonathan Brown emerged the final winner ahead of Milliken .
Also contesting the Irish Open title was the Micro F2’s. Scotland lass Naomi Bain stormed to victory in the title showdown before Robbie Graham enjoyed a double win later in the meeting.
Also in action was the Ministox and Gp2 Lightning Rods. Callum Doak picked up the opening ministox heat win before Harry Martin dominated the remainder of the day chalking up wins in the second heat and final. Lewis Peoples enjoyed honours in both the heat races. Steven Elder cranked up the pace to take a strong victory in the meeting final.
