The 2023 race season kicked off in style at Nutts Corner Raceway, with the now annual Paddy Whack event for the Back to Basic Micro Bangers taking centre stage.

The booking list was greatly increased for this year’s Paddy Whack, with the addition of the ladies from Team Sugar Tits. The team was comprised of 30 plus ladies, all with the passion of getting on track with the lads and raising some money for a Pretty in Pink, a local breast cancer charity. The team made their presence felt all afternoon, as they got into the thick of all the action. A staggering £18,000 was raised and the team are already looking into taking part in future meetings.

The format for Paddy Whack was slightly different this year as the drivers were split into teams. The team with the most points at the end of the day was to be crowned champions.
The busy heat races were won by Jay Gurney and Marc Morrell before Josh Hill went on to take victory in the meeting final. When all the points were tallied, Team Brainless (David Gurney, Jay Gurney & William Donnell) emerged as the winners.

The 2L Saloon Stock Cars were back in action ahead of their Irish Open Weekend in early April. Local social media star “Donkey 262” was making a guest appearance in the rough and tumble formula. Matthew Stirling and Ryan Wright shared the heat wins before Anthony McIvor went on to take the meeting final honours.

There was a good squad of 1300 Stock Cars in attendance for the 2023 season opener. Former National Banger World Champion Steven Bolton picked up the flag in heat one while multiple Stock Rod Champion Mark Crawford enjoyed victory in heat two. Simon Lamont was the man to beat in the meeting final, taking the spoils ahead of Crawford and Chris Hamill.

Also on the billing was the GP2 Lightning Rods. Jonathon Bigger romped to victory in the opening heat, before Portglenone’s Stewart Nicholl took charge of the remaining races. Chalking up wins in both heat two and the meeting final.
Completing the race card was the ORCi Stock Rods. The drivers were keen to use this event as vital track time before their Irish Open weekend in just two weeks. Samuel Montgomery and Micky McFall shared the heat wins. Former World Champion Stephen “Speedy” McCready found promising pace in the final, taking a convincing victory ahead of Jack Morrow and Jack Kennedy.

The raceway returns on Sat 1st and Sunday 2nd April with the first Speed Weekend of 2023. Full details of these events can be found on the website at www.nuttscornerraceway.co.uk.
