Mayes lands glory!

An excellent showing of 2L Saloon Stock Cars returned to do battle for day number two. All in was the format this time around, with two reverse grid heats combined to form the Irish Masters grid. Continuing on from the hard hitting style from Saturday evening the heat action was hot and heavy. Deane Mayes secured victory in the first encounter before Ian McLaughlin scooped his second triumph of the weekend in heat two. Mayes heat win points along with a fourth place finish seen him take to pole position for the championship decider. Mayes got away clean at the green flag to take up the early running. A spin in the opening lap for Alan Ainsle resulted in home straight dramas when Holy Glenn and Ryan Wright become stranded, while cars were sent flying everywhere further up the pack. A caution period was called and the cars all clustered up once again. Mayes produced yet another text book start this time around and as the saying goes ‘the rest was history’. Mayes completed the distance to take the win ahead of O’Dell and the Irish Champion Anthony McIvor. In an revision to the race card an all-comers event was added, numbers were on the subordinate side for this one owing to earlier damages. Scotland’s Euan Mathieson capitalised from his yellow grade start slot to take the win.

World Champ McGill adds Irish Open title to his CV

Day two also featured further Championship action for the ORCi Stock Rods, with the Irish Open title up for grabs. Former Group Two Lightning Rod Irish Champion David Reynolds highlighted his impressive adaption to the formula with victories in both the heat races.
The World Champion Lee McGill was bang on the pace when it come to the Irish Open showdown where he pranced to victory after a late reshuffle of placing’s. McGill was shadowed across the line by Jack Kennedy and Daniel Rodgers.

Sunday Support Formula Round Up

Completing Sunday afternoon’s race programme was the Brisca F2 Stock Cars, Group Two Lightning Rods and Street Rods.

The F2 Stock Cars were back on track after their busy Saturday night session; Craig McConnell looked fast in both heat events but was unable to catch the runaway Mark Rainey who secured a double victory. McConnell was again the pace setter in the final where he took the victory ahead of Curtis Greer and Sam McKay.

The Group Two Lightning Rods were on fine form all afternoon providing the onlookers with a feast of non-contact exploits. David Nesbitt and Clive Wilson shared the heat wins before Paul Nesbitt romped home out-front to pick up the final honours.

Completing the billing was the Street Rods who previously raced at Ballymena Raceway. The untimely closing of BMR resulted in the Street Rods formula being added to the NuttsCorner Fixture list. Dan Robinson was the man to beat in the heat events nonetheless the World Cup Champion Warren Thompson stepped up his game in the final to get his hands on the silverware.
