McIvor scoops Hat Trick

Kieran McIvor was the man to beat at the latest Saloon Stock Car meeting at Nutts Corner.  Kieran the recently crowned Irish Open Champion got his evening of to a fine start in heat one when he powered clear of his fellow star graders, brother Anthony, Matthew Stirling and Ryan Wright as they battled hard for position. McIvor made short work of the lower grade drivers to complete the distance and take the win ahead of Darryl McCammon.  Heat two was a case of déjà vu with the aforementioned A McIvor, Stirling and Wright again squabbling amongst each other. Kieran calmly manoeuvred through front runners to take his second victory in succession.

The final got off to a hectic start as the red and champion graders swapped places repeatedly for several laps, this give William Ogilby and Darryl McCammon some breathing space to open up a healthy advantage at the front.  It wasn’t long until McCammon took up the running with K McIvor now securely placed inn second and giving chase.  As the laps ticked away K McIvor edged ever closer to the race leader and was swift to deliver a punishing blow on the roundabout bend which would spell out the end for McCammon. McIvor went on to take another great win, joining him on the podium was A McIvor and Ogilby.

Rapid McFerran’s winning streak show’s no end

Portglenone’s Declan Og McFerran continues to impress in the ultra-competitive Junior Rod section, where he enjoyed another duo of wins. McFerran stormed to victory in heat one, with Anais McCreight the runner up.  Local Lad Jonathan Brown put on an impressive performance in heat two taking the honours, McCreight was again on hand to pick up another impressive second place finish.  McFerran made another visit to victory lane in the meeting final which takes his tally to three feature wins in the trot. Mark Crawford was the gallant runner up with Matthew Drysdale third.

Greer gets hands on silverware.

The Brisca F2’s were in attendance to provide the open wheel element of the programme. NuttsCorner’s Bradley McKinstry has been on top form in the early part of 2018 and he again highlighted his pace when he stormed from the superstar grade to take the win in heat number one. Kilrea’s Thomas Greer made the best of his blue grade starting slot to command proceedings in heat two, taking the flag ahead of recent returnee Graham Fegan.  Greer was quick to open up a healthy advantage early in the feature final while Fegan, Craig McConnell and McKinstry  battled for position at the rear. As the race settled Greer kept up a steady pace at the front with Bradley McKinstry now settled into second and pushing very hard indeed.  McKinstry closed the gap dramatically however Greer managed to keep his cool all the way to the flag, McKinstry secured a pleasing runner up finish with Fegan in third.

Double delight for Ian

A great turnout of Stock Rods graced the track for what was their final NuttsCorner showdown prior to the European Championship, which will be stage at the local venue later this month. Veteran racer Ian Thompson Snr was the first to show when he romped to victory in heat one. Thompson was again among the front runners in heat two before mechanical gremlins would side-line him from contention.  Andrew Morrow was on hand to pick up the pieces and indeed take the glory as he completed the distance in first place ahead of the rapid Nial McFerran. The meeting final was something of a spectacle under the flood lights with  half a lap separating all the cars at the fall of the finish flag, Thompson took charge of proceedings from the off and took the honours ahead of Jordan McCann and Adam Sloan. The competitive nature of the formula will surely lead to some incredible racing come the championship weekend on the 26th and 25th of May.
