18th April 2018

Race goers were treated to a sunny evening of action at Nutts Corner’s first Wednesday gathering of the race season, where the Brisca F2’s, 2L Saloons, Stock Rods and Junior Rods served up thirteen busy races.

Hat Trick Hero McKinstry

Bradley McKinstry was on blistering form in the Brisca F2 Stock Cars where he recorded an excellent brace of wins in both the heats and the meeting final. Lisburn’s Gavin Fegan was first across the line in the heat races, however as he was racing under a temporary licence his results were not counted towards the official results. McKinstry managed to go one better in the meeting final when he overcome the rapid blue grader Fegan on the final lap, Fegan made a last corner effort to retake the top spot but found himself spinning out of control. Craig McConnell was the runner up with Sam McKay third. A Grand National concluded the evening’s racing, Sam McKay picked up the victory with McConnell the runner up, McKinstry crawled his way back to third after starting a lap down on the handicap system as a result of winning the final.

Flyin’ Ryan take heat and final double

A respectable 9 2L Saloon Stock Cars were in attendance at NuttsCorner Raceway for the first mid week race session of 2018. Two lively heat races resulted in wins for Cullybackey’s  Ryan Wright and    Girvin Houston. The meeting final was arguably race of the night with a top mix of fast racing, thrills and spills.  Houston the lonesome yellow grader again set the early bench mark, while Wright and K McIvor negotiated their way through the traffic. Once the duo broke free of the blue graders they set about closing the gap to the race leader. Houston was quick to relinquish his lead to Wright only to deliver a blow back into turns one and two where the pair visited the fence in style. All the while McIvor was edging closer on a free track, however the former Irish Champion Wright managed to brush off the challenge and went on to complete the distance ahead of the McIvor brother Kieran and Anthony, Matthew Stirling, Peter Greer  and William Ogilby were the other finishers.

Raymond roars to final win

Nutts Corner local Raymond Harper was back in victory lane at Wednesday’s meeting when he produced a storming drive to win the Stock Rod Final. The former British Champion used all of his experience to negotiate the traffic in text book style to get his hands on the silverware.  Andrew morrow was the runner up with Niall McFerran continuing his good start to the season in third. Earlier in the evening Morrow and Shea Duff shared the heat wins. Harpers most recent success will surely increase his confidence as we edge closer to the European Championship which takes place at ‘The Corner’ next month.

Declan Og secures maiden Junior Rod win!

Portglenone teenager  Declan Og McFerran got his Junior Rod Career of to a flying start by winning the meeting  final. Declan Og capitalised fully on his white grade starting slot to build up a healthy advantage out front, he withstood the pressure from the sports established names to take the win ahead of Matthew Drysdale and Ty Richardon. Fellow Portlgenone lad Jordan Nicholl claimed the honours in the opening heat of the evening before Amy Bradford piloted her Vauxhall Corsa to a convincing win in heat two.
