Elliot lands final win

Rathfriland's Ivan Elliot was the man to beat in the 1300 Stock Cars at Wednesday's Nutts Corner outing. Elliot, one of the province's top performers had been flying below the radar over the last few weeks, however he returned to form when he blasted to a fine victory in heat two. Earlier in the evening Calvin Blake recorded a convincing win in the opening heat. Blake was the early pace setter in the meeting final, powering well clear of his competitors in the opening laps. As the laps ticked away Blake continued to lead the way, by this stage the rapid heat two winner Elliot was on the move and indeed making massive strides towards the race leader. By the time the five lap marker appeared Elliot was hot on the heels of Blake, this is where he would remain until the very last bend when he launched a well calculated assault on the long time leader. This allowed Elliot to move through and take the win, Blake was the gallant runner up with Jack Kearney third.

Brisca F2's enjoy the Calm before the Storm

It appeared to be a case of enjoying the calm before the storm for the popular F2 Stock Cars. An impressive entry of 21 Cars were in attendance which is very pleasing due to the fact they will contest a double international fixture over the weekend at Ballymena and Nutts Corner Raceway's.

A new grading period was in effect for this meeting, as always this give some drivers the chance to start further up the field while others found themselves gridded further back. Belfast ace Gavin Fegan was the first to use the new grading to perfect advantage when he picked up the honours in the busy opening heat. Portglenone's Sean McFerran dominated proceedings in heat two where he completed the distance to take a well deserved victory. The meeting final was still in it's infancy when a caution period was required to retrieve the stricken machinery belonging to Mark Murphy after he come to rest on the racing line. Darren Lockhart took up the running at the resumption followed by McFerran and Jack Boal. Boal quickly breezed past the leading duo with the heat one winner Fegan in tow. Mid race it looked as though Fegan had the beating of the race leader as he continued to edge closer and closer, Boal however kept his composure when it mattered, completing the distance to take the win ahead of the hard charging Fegan in second, Antrim's Christopher Kincaid recorded an impressive third place finish from the rear of the field.

Support formula Round Up

Jack Morrow give a fine account of himself in the opening Junior Rod heat where he was the run away winner, incidentally this was his first ever win in the Junior Rod section. Local lad Matthew Milliken picked up the win in heat two which featured plenty of drama's including two caution periods to deal with on track incidents. Joshua McKinstry enjoyed strong performances in both the heat races with two runner up finishes, he managed to go one better in the meeting final where he scooped the win ahead of Milliken and Jamie Hunter.  The Micro F2's embarked on another three action packed events with Rhianna Murray, Rueben kernohan & Cathal McFerran emerging as the top performers.

There is plenty of action coming up at the Raceway  over the next two weekends. Sunday 11th June will feature the  Brisca F2 Irish Open, F1 Heritage Irish Open, Micro F2's, 1300 Stock Cars & 2L Saloons while Sunday 18th June see's Micro F2, 2L Saloons, Junior Rods, Micro Bangers & GP2 Lightning Rods all on the race card.
