The Annual Nutts Corner Raceway Boxing Day bash served up no shortage of thrills and spills. During the course of the event the GP2 Lightning Rods contested their Stadium Championship while the remaining formula's done battle for the Derek Mason Memorial King of the Corner titles.

David Nesbitt took the spoils in the GP2 Lightning Rod 2017 Stadium Championship final sponsored by Muppet Motorsport, after what was a controversial final few laps. The race was still in it's infancy when it clearly emerged, it was going to be a three way battle between the Nesbitt duo (Paul & David) and their stablemate Clive Wilson. At the green flag the trio of drivers quickly moved clear of their rivals, as they went in search of the silverware. There was nothing to separate the top three for most of the race, until Paul Nesbitt eased the bumper onto the then race leader Wilson in the closing laps.  P Nesbitt completed the remaining laps to take the flag ahead of D Nesbitt & Wilson. P Nesbitt  subsequently received a two place docking for the earlier contact, this promoted David to the top spot. Wilson was declared the runner-up with Paul demoted to third. Earlier in the afternoon P Nesbitt & Wilson shared the heat wins, meanwhile Randalstown's George Esler was declared as the 2017 NCR Stadium Points Champion.

The McClurkin brothers Tyler & Darryl were unstoppable in the Micro F2 ranks where they both enjoyed victories. Tyler cruised from the rear of the field to take a convincing victory in the heat event before Darryl completed the distance in the trophy race ahead of his brother in second and Callum Kincaid in third.

Nine 1300 Stock Cars were in attendance to entertain the large gathering of onlookers. Local man William Stewart was undefeated in the heat events where he scooped the honours in both of the lively races. Nicky Lowry and Calvin Blake were  another duo who featured well during the heats. Lowry was able to build on his earlier good performances to pull off a show stopper, taking the silverware in the feature race. Returnee to the formula Ryan Stewart was the runner-up ahead of Belfast's Jon McQuillan.

A respectable festive showing of nine Brisca F2's took to the track for heat one, including a welcome returnee in the form of the former Irish Champion Craig McConnell. Another welcome addition to the ranks was occasional racer Ronald Scott. The opening race was called under caution early on after a spectacular spin out for the afore mentioned Scott. Dean McCrory quickly dominated proceedings on the restart, from there he went on to complete the distance well clear of Conor Hughes and McConnell. Randalstown's Willie Murray was the flag to flag victor in heat two, McCrory was second with Mark Murphy third. Murray set the early pace in the feature race of the afternoon, however it wasn't long until the heat one winner McCrory moved through into the lead. Hughes was another who was making strides through the field as was McConnell. McCrory was able to hold of the competition to take the win with McConnell and Murray next across the line.

Completing the race card was the Stock Rods and Junior Rods. Kurtis Reid scored victory in Stock Rod Heat one after a terrific late battle with Andrew Morrow. The lower graded drivers Morrow and Reid were unable to withhold the pressure of the Star graders in the final. Niall McFerran was in fine form, bursting through from the rear of the pack to take the win ahead of the World Champion Stephen McCready. Lisburn lass Amy Bradford was the long-time leader of Junior Rod heat one, only missing out on the win on the final lap to Randalstown's Ty Richardson. Bradford again set the early pace in the final before Matthew Drysdale found form to scoop the honours ahead of Josh McKinstry.
