Greer makes it double

Thomas Greer continued his fine run of form as late by getting the day off to a flyer as he took a victory in heat 1 of the BriSCA F2 stockcars. Christopher Kincaid had to settle for 2nd in this one as he struggled to find the pace to hunt Greer down. Scott Finlay took the win from the blue grade in heat 2, with Bradley McKinstry making a rare appearance into the top 3 finishing 2nd ahead of Kincaid. Thomas Greer had found the pace again come the final managing to take the flag ahead of Christopher Kincaid and Bradley McKinstry 3rd.

McKinstry wins Stadium Championship

Matthew McKinstry took a win in the Stock Rods 2016 Stadium Championship finale for the second year in a row. The youngster was laying second behind fellow competitor Jack Kennedy with Jason Clyde 3rd. Kennedy seemed to have some sort of trouble which led to a retirement promoting McKinstry to the lead and Clyde into 2nd, although by this stage Clyde was going to have to put some rather fast laps in to try and make an effort to catch McKinstry as he had pulled a rather healthy lead. McKinstry crossed the line 1st, with Clyde a few car lengths behind in 2nd and Aaron Moody 3rd. Jason Clyde went one better in the next race, taking the flag ahead of Aaron Moody and Sam McKinstry. Sam McKinstry managed to take the win in the final race of the day ahead of Moody and Matthew McKinstry.

Barrett wins Golden Helmet

Darryl McClurkin got his day off to a rather good start in the Micro F2’s as he took a win in heat 1. D McClurkin was followed over the line by newcomer to the class Jake Barrett in 2nd and Scott Hosie 3rd. Heat 2 was a carbon copy from the previous race as again it was D McClurkin who crossed the line in 1st position with Barrett 2nd and Hosie 3rd. The main event of the day got under way and it was D McClurkin who led the way for a short while before newcomer Barrett took over in the no.1 position, Darryl McClurkin lost another position as brother Tyler moved into 2nd position. Barrett took the win from Tyler McClurkin in 2nd and Darryl McClurkin 3rd.

Reynolds is ‘King’

The GP2 Lightning Rods were on show competing for their 2016 King of the Corner, with 2 qualifying heats it was sure to be an interesting couple of races. It was the novice drivers who filled out the top 3 positions in heat 1, yellow grader Clive Wilson took the victory. Paul Nesbitt took the win in heat 2 as he got off to a flyer at the start. Jason Darragh made an appearance into the top 3 as he came across the line 2nd with David Reynolds 3rd. Reynolds wasn’t long finding the top position as the green flag dropped, Paul Nesbitt and Karl Smyth had the  pressure on Reynolds, but he never set a foot wrong to take the win with Nesbitt 2nd and Smyth 3rd.

McQuillan wins Ulster Championship

The 1300 Stockcars had their 2016 Ulster Championship up for grabs, and with last years winner Chris Hamill no longer racing there was sure to be a different winner. Nicky Lowry set the pace in heat 1 as he took the win from Peter Greer and Jon McQuillan. Greer managed to nick the win from Lowry in heat 2. Jon McQuillan managed to get through into the lead with only a handful of laps remaining, Aaron Rainey was starting to reel him in as the laps ticked down. McQuillan held on to take the flag with Rainey 2nd and Ivan Elliott 3rd.
