Champ Craig strikes again

Bangor ace Craig McConnell  the current Irish Champion scooped his second final win in 5 days in the Brisca F2’s in what was a night of fantastic race action. There was yet another high entry of ‘tooz’ in attendance with no shortage of thrills and spills. Local lad Bradley McKinstry tasted success for the first time in the formula when he took a fine win in heat 1 while William Murray drove his newly acquired RCE chassis to its maiden win in the second heat.  The final was quite possibly race of the season thus far with high speed racing mixed with carnage right from the off; the race was only a few laps old when the yellow flags were required to retrieve the stricken 929 machine of Conor Hughes after a big crash on turn 1, as the race resumed the yellows were swiftly called again when Ryan McCrory got spat out of the pack in fine style on the home straight, McCrory received some medical attention while the remaining drivers re gridded for another race resumption. By this stage the field was somewhat depleted with less than half of the original starters still fit for battle,  amongst those left was the young gun Dean McCrory as well as the Irish & Irish Open Champions Craig McConnell and Christopher Kincaid, McCrory was quickly away at the restart with McConnell hot on his heels, within a few laps McConnell took over out front and remained there all the way to the flag marking his second feature win in as many outings, Kincaid was the runner up with Scott Finlay third. A grand national rounded out the evenings proceedings with Kincaid capturing the win from Dean McCrory & Graham Fegan, McConnell recorded a fine fourth place finish from his lap down handicap as a result of winning the meeting final.

Tuckers Trio

Thomas ‘Tucker’ McCrory Jnr was the form man in the 2L Saloons where he stormed to a brace of victories in both the heats as well as the final. Heat one saw a dice for positions between the star a blue graders with Irish Champion Ryan Wright the victim of a well calculated spin out from Kieran McIvor, the action continued in heat 2 when K McIvor & Ross Houston locked horns, a late suspension period heightened tensions for a 3 lap dash to the flag with McCrory holding on for the win.  The final again became something of a Houston v McIvor showdown with the pair involved in continuous exchanges, McIvor eventually run into problems retiring to the safety of the infield momentarily before rejoining in front of fourth place runner Wright, Wright was quick to spin McIvor returning him to the infield meanwhile up front McCrory was well on his way to another fine win, At the flag it was McCrory from Anthony McIvor and James Serplus, Wright came home in fourth with Houston recovering to fifth after his early dramas.

Support action

The Stock Rods were on hand to provide the support action as well as another demonstration from the ever growing Junior F2’s.  The newly crowned Yokohama Tyres Champion Steven McKane was the victor in Stock Rod heat one before junior graduate Matthew McKinstry bagged his first senior win in heat two. McKinstry continued his winning streak in the final with McKane being forced to settle with runner up spot ahead of Jonathon McMillan.
