Irish Open Champion Kincaid warms up for title defence.

Brisca F2 Stock Car Irish Open champion Christopher Kincaid warmed up in style for his title defence in mid June, the Antrim ace enjoyed top 5 finishes in both the heat races which were won by Conor Hughes before he went on to collect the silverware in both the meeting final and the grand national. Hughes a former Irish champion has been plagued with mechanical troubles and injuries in 2015 leading to many non finishes which in turn see’s the usual star grade driver racing from the blue grade, Hughes was quick to take full advantage of his lower starting slot when he romped to victory in both the heats on a rather damp track, Sam McKay was another who performed well in the heats with podium finishes in each race, again McKay was on top form in the final where he finished a fine third behind Kincaid and Craig McConnell. McConnell the current Irish champion looked as though he could steal some of Kincaid’s thunder in the grand national where he held the top spot right up to the final bend before falling victim to a precisely calculated hit from the rapid Kincaid.

Gold Cup for Wilfie.

WIlfie McNiece was man of the moment in the popular ORC Stock Rod class; the veteran racer from Co. Armagh showed he still has what it takes bagging an excellent victory in heat one as well as taking the spoils in the feature race namely the 2015 Gold Cup.  Local man Richard Taylor was on hand to deny McNiece the perfect hat trick when he took the flag in the second heat.  Gareth Bevan and Ricky Shaw completed the podium steps in the title race.

Support action round up.

Another healthy field of Junior Rods were in attendance where Antony Kincaid matched his brother’s success in the F2’s by taking the final win with Jack Patchett and Jack Kennedy next across the line. Earlier in the programme Leah Hughes showed girl power in the opening heat with a convincing win before Joshua Mc Kinstry steered his Vauxhall Nova to glory in heat two.  Stalwart racer and former Irish champion Stuart McCammon made the best of his season debut in the 2L Saloons collecting the final silverware, Coleraine brothers Anthony and Kieran McIvor shared the heat wins.  The junior F2’s completed another two races in this their debut season, Declan Og McFerran was the victor in both with Tyler McClurkin and Rhianna Murray the other place finishers in the final.

Racing takes a break this week before returning with a bang next weekend June 13th and 14th for the annual F2 Speed weekend featuring drivers from all corners of the UK, as well as 3 title events for the F2’s there will also be championships for the other formulas on display on top of the eagerly anticipated debut of the Heritage Brisca F2 Stock Cars here in the province.  A weekend of top class short oval action NOT TO BE MISSED!!!
