Finlay Scoops Grand National honours!

It was back to domestic duties for the Brisca F2 stock cars after their busy 3 day meeting last weekend; numbers were slightly down on what we have seen frequently in 2015 however that was to be expected after the highly successful speed weekend had taken a few casualties. Of those present Thomas Greer was the first to taste success when he powered to a clear victory in the opening heat, Billy Finnegan Jnr was the victor in heat 2 where he held of the rapid Chris Kincaid to take a well deserved win. Kincaid wasn’t going to settle for runner up spot in the meeting final, the multiple champion from Antrim blasted all the way from the super star grade to take the spoils ahead of Finnegan and Craig McConnell. The fourth race on the programme for the single seaters and indeed the most significant was the Grand National which was another round of the Grand National qualifying series, Scott Finlay was a man on a mission right from the off quickly closing ground on the leading duo Finnegan and Sean McFerran, it wasn’t long before Finlay powered well to take the win at ease from Finnegan and McConnell, in a late dash Dean McCrory dusted the impressive newcomer McFerran around the wall to pick up fourth place.

Canny Curtis is Gold Cup Champ.

Curtis Greer the current 1300 Stock Car Northern Irish Champion kept his cool to add yet more silverware to his ever growing collection when he took the spoils in the Gold Cup Championship. 14 cars were in attendance to do battle for the coveted event which was run over to graded heats and a reverse grid final. It was the lower graders who showed at first during the meeting with Bradley Woods and Kyle McClean sharing the heat wins.  All the heat points were added to create the grid for the feature event with McClean and Calvin Blake sharing the front row, Greer was positioned menacingly on row 2 and as the bumpers went flying in during early exchanges he quickly moved to the top spot. There was no shortage of entertainment throughout the field with several battles developing along the way, while all the action was behind Greer continued to extend his lead all the way to the flag, Blake recorded a fine runner up finish ahead of McClean.

The support action was provided by the Stock Rods and Group 2 Lightning Rods.  British Champion Steven McKane picked up the first Stock Rod victory of the evening when he just piped Wilfie McNiece at the line to take the win by a whisker. Niall McFerran enjoyed a convincing win in heat two and looked as though he was well on his way to a repeat performance in the final before mechanical gremlins forced him to retire, Andy Scott was the thankful beneficiary of this and he went on to record the win from McNiece and McKane. Andy McLeister was the star performer in the popular GP 2 Lightning Rods, the Ballymoney man a former Prostock Scottish Open champion enjoyed victory in both heat one and the final, Jason Clyde from Broughshane was on hand to spoil any chances of a hat trick for McLeister when he took the flag in heat two.
