Bradderz doubles up.

Nutts Corner's teen sensation Bradley McKinstry enjoyed double success in the F2's with a fine win in heat one and more importantly a very comfortable victory in the grand national which was round 6 of the season long grand national series. Heat one almost run it's full distance with out drama's until star names Craig McConnell and Graham Fegan had a coming together on the pit straight leading to a yellow suspension period only a few laps from the end. Conor Hughes led the pack at the restart and went on to take the flag before being penalised 2 places for a jump start, McKinstry was on hand to inherit the win ahead of Gordy McKee. The Irish Open champion Ryan McCrory showed great pace in heat two taking the honours with Graham Feagn in second. Fegan made an excellent get away in the final opening up a nice gap between himself and the other star names early on, it wasn’t long before the former European champion found him self at the head of proceedings. Fegan completed the distance well clear of McKinstry and McConnell. McKinstry was keen to capitalise on Fegan's lap down handicap in the grand national and soon made an escape to scoop his second win of the evening, McConnell picked up the runner up spot after his disappointing start to the night with a DNF in the opening heat.

Anthony's Gold Cup Glory

The 2L Saloons were back in action for the first time since their international event at the raceway back in July. A somewhat depleted entry of only 4 drivers assembled to do battle for the Gold Cup title with former Junior and 1300 Stock Car man  Robert Mawhinney making his début in the formula. Both heats were won by Anthony McIvor and it must be noted that they weren’t without action,  the Irish champion Ryan Wright was the victim in heat one when his air filter caught fire forcing a retirement while Mawhinney tasted the concrete for the first time when he lost a wheel in heat two. The gold cup title race saw early clashes between the McIvor brother and Wright, Kieran McIvor finished up spun around in the process while his brother Anthony opened up a small gap ahead of Wright, this is how it would finish with Anthony picking up his third win of the evening less than one second ahead of Wright in second.

Support Classes

Another decent showing of Stock Rods provided the spectators with a fine display of non contact racing where Jeff Anderson was the star attraction. Anderson a former production car pilot romped to a brace of wins including the feature final, the British champion Steven McKane tried his level best to keep pace with the rapid Anderson however it wasn’t enough, McKane was forced to settle for second with Wilfie McNiece third. The 1300 Stock Car were also on display with Calvin Blake and Ryan Stewart sharing the heat wins. Jon McQuillan set the early pace in the final but it wasn't long before a train of star graders including Stewart and Ivan Elliot were large in his mirror, Stewart made his move and moved through to take his second win ahead of Elliot and Chris Hamill.

Racing returns to the 'Corner' on Wednesday 26th August at 7.30pm. The Brisca F2's will contest another grand national qualifying round with the 1300 Stock Cars, Junior Rods and Stock Rods also on the 13 race schedule.
