“Flying Finlay” lands virgin victory.

Newcomer to the Brisca F2 stock cars Scott Finlay highlighted his presence among the established stars when he cruised to a convincing victory in the F2 final. Finlay didn’t feature so well in the heat races but when it mattered most in the trophy race he struck gold. As the green flag fell on the final the star graders were at it hammer and tong allowing the white graded Finlay to build up a healthy advantage out front. In the midst of all the drama Ryan McCrory was spun out of contention while Craig McConnell and Conor Hughes battled hard for the minor places, Irish champion Chris Kincaid by this stage had broken well clear of the other star men but despite his best efforts he could not make a dent on Finlay’s massive lead, Kincaid finished runner up with McConnell third. The heats wins were shared by Kincaid and McCrory.

Willie is No 1

Willie Stewart reminded everyone why he is #1 with yet another fine final win in the 1300 stock cars. The small armoured machines provided the spectators with a top afternoon of thrills and spills as all the drivers went in search of the top spot. The bumpers were flying hard right from the green flag in the final as Ryan and William Stewart, Calvin Blake and Raymond Harper all had their eyes on the trophy, the pack all exchanged positions several times before W. Stewart dealt them a heavy blow paving the way for the local man to go on and take the win from Harper and R Stewart. Earlier in the afternoon R Stewart and Harper shared the heat wins.

Niall says “2 out of 3 aint bad’’

Jack Kennedy was on hand to spoil Niall McFerran’s hope of a hat trick of wins in the Junior section, McFerran opened his account for the day with a good win in heat one before Kennedy put on a star performance in heat two taking a well calculated win and in the process denying McFerran his three in a row dream. In the early laps of the final it was a three way battle for supremacy with the heat winners and Anthony Kincaid breaking well clear of the chasing pack; it wasn’t long before Kennedy’s hopes were dashes with the youngster being forced to retire due to mechanical problems. Kincaid and McFerran battled on in vain and at the flag it was KIlrea’s McFerran who was ahead with Kincaid the gallant runner up.

O’Neill does it yet again!!

Alan has a habit of taking the honours in the title races for National Bangers at Nutts Corner and this time it was no different as the Republic of Ireland driver crowned himself the 2l National Banger Irish Open Champion. Thrills and spills were most certainly order of the day with the race fans being treated to some massive hits and even a double barrel roll performed by the one and only Stephen ‘Hotsocks’ Reynolds who incidentally finished runner up in the feature race. O’Neill rounded out a great afternoon’s racing for himself north of the border with yet another win in the DD.

With the start of the season just weeks away it’s a very busy time for the promoters and drivers alike as they prepare for the 2014 campaign, fixture planning is in its final stages and will be published on the official website www.nuttscornerraceway.co.uk in the coming weeks.
