Falkirk flyer Burgoyne was on the wings!!

2002 World champion Chris Burgoyne from Scotland was waiting on the wings to step in when things went horribly wrong for Chris Kincaid in the feature race during day two of the speed weekend. The Brisca F2 Nationals championship was the headline event with again representation from all corners of the UK on track to claim success in the big showdown. As per the Brisca rules a public draw took place for the grid positions and inadvertently it was the defending champion Tom Adcroft from Yorkshire who picked out pole position. Adcroft set the early pace with the rapid Chris Kincaid in hot pursuit; It wasn’t long before Kincaid took up at the head of the pack with Burgoyne, Adcroft and Craig McConnell next in tow.  The yellow flags were aired on a few occasions consequently bunching the cars back up and hence reducing Kincaid’s lead however he was quick of the mark every time leaving Burgoyne no other option but to chase. As the lap markers appeared all was quiet and almost as though the podium finishers had been decided; this wasn’t to be the case as Kelvyn Whalley had picked up the pace and was closing on the third place man McConnell. To add to the drama the long time leader suffered sudden engine problems with only one lap remaining, Burgoyne was quick to pick up the pieces by dashing towards the finish line ahead of Kincaid who nursed his sick car home in second, McConnell survived a huge last bend lunge from Whalley to pick up his second podium finish of the weekend.

With the Nationals title now done and dusted the remainder of the meeting was for the George Fegan Perpetual Trophy which was run over to all in heats and a final. The visiting contingent dominated the heats with wins for Darren Clarke and Chris Burgoyne. The Trophy race was a lively affair to say the least, with the yellow flags out and flying before the first lap had been completed when Adcroft and Charlie Whitfield come together on the pit straight. Action was aplenty throughout the remainder of the race with a dual between Gavin Fegan and Kincaid as well as a big crash on the turnstile bend for Ryan McCrory, former Irish champion Conor Hughes escaped all the excitement to take the win from the recovered Whitfield and his fellow North easterner Paul Broatch.

Support Classes

In the support action, Steve Gooch from England added the UK Stock Rod Irish open title to his CV, concluding a very successful trip the province for the European champion; he was followed home in the title race by Levi Robinson and Gareth Bevan. Ross Houston was once again the form man in the 2L Saloons where he cruised to another brace of victories including the Gold Cup title, Irish champion Ryan Wright claimed runner up with Anthony McIvor in third. Nicky Lowry took the honours in both the 13oo stock car races with Jack Kennedy enjoying wins in the second junior rod heat and Final after Adrian McConnell collected the flag in heat 1.
